Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) Approved Reiki Practitioner Training

Picture
People who want to learn Reiki usually do so for three reasons:

1)   For fun, for your own enjoyment of learning something new and to use non-professionally on family and friends.  If this is you, welcome and           please have a look at the 'Reiki Training' page under the 'Training' banner above, where you will find details of all of the Reiki courses that
you can learn, enjoy and use on yourself, your family and friends.  These Reiki courses build on your knowledge as you progress, so you have           to complete Level I before you can go on to Level II, etc.
2)   Because you are a practicing therapist and would like to add Reiki to the list of therapies you offer to your clients professionally.  If you
already hold current therapy qualifications (at least one), that include Anatomy and Physiology, Health, Safety and Hygiene, Ethics, Building         a Business, Client Care  and Communication skills, then you have the choice of going to the 'Reiki Training' page and progressing through the         Levels (I to IV) or you can complete your Reiki Practitioner training as a 'stand-alone' qualification as detailed below.
3)   You are new to holistic therapies, do not hold any other current therapy qualifications and would like to learn Reiki as a 'stand-alone' therapy,         so that you can join the Federation of Holistic Theapists (FHT) as a member (to gain all of the benefits of a professional therapy organisation,         including legal support, etc), gain insurance to practice as a professional Reiki Practitioner and have the option of
joining the FHT's Complementary Healthcare Therapist Register, which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority .  If this is you,         then you can join the courses detailed under the heading 'Reiki Courses' PLUS you will also have to complete the additional requirements
       listed below.

The Path to Becoming a Professional Reiki Practitioner...

I am so happy to announce that my Reiki Level I and II courses have recently been approved by the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) as an (educational) Level 3 'stand-alone' Practitioner course.  These courses now comply with National Occupational Standards and the FHT Core Curriculum.  This means that, upon successful completion you can gain membership and insurance with the FHT and join the FHT's Complementary Healthcare Therapist Register, which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

You can still learn Reiki for fun, your own enjoyment and to use on family and friends.  However, for those of you who know that you would like to become a Practitioner from the start, it is now possible to complete Reiki Levels I and II (plus the other requirements listed below) and have your certificates accepted by the FHT, as opposed to having to complete an additional complementary therapy course, which would normally offer the extra learning requirements for membership and insurance, etc, as was previously necessary.  This is because my Reiki Levels I and II now have all of the additional knowledge and requirements for acceptance built in.

Why should I do a ‘stand-alone’ Reiki course?

If you have an inkling that you would like to become a professional Reiki Practitioner before you start your training it is possible to complete your Reiki training as a ‘stand alone’ qualification.  There are very few Reiki courses being run to National Occupational Standards (NOS) in the UK and this is why it is necessary in most cases to gain an additional therapy qualification that is run to this level before being able to gain insurance to practice.  These Reiki Level I and II courses are run by a fully qualified teacher with 16 years experience as a practising Reiki Practitioner and Master-Teacher.

What do I need to do to become a professional Reiki Practitioner?

Reiki Level I - Five hours pre-study of course materials before attending one full day’s practical training.  Complete the normal requirement of 21-days of self healing.  Upon successful completion you will be awarded your Level I certificate.  You will also be asked to get started on recording all of the Reiki treatments that you give to yourself, receive from others and give to your family and friends in a treatment log. Start a personal reflective log and start building a portfolio of evidence, where you will store EVERYTHING that you are doing towards your qualification.

Reiki Level II - Five hours pre-study of course materials before attending one full day’s practical training. Complete the normal requirement of 21-days of self healing.  Continue to build your portfolio of evidence.  Complete 10 case studies (10 people having at least 4 treatments each) and five practical assessment of treatment sessions.

These two combined courses must show evidence of a minimum of 140 hours of training.  However, this total includes guided (face-to-face learning with your tutor), assessed treatments, case studies and directed or notational learning (the studying at home that your tutor suggests and that you do on your own, such as reading).  You will also need to show evidence that you have carried out 75 hours of Reiki treatments on family, friends and clients, as well as 100 hours of self-treatment and treatments that you have had from other people (received treatments).

Final one-day training – You will be expected to submit your portfolios for marking before attending this final day where we will be going through them.  We will also be looking at all of the practical aspects of setting up your own business as a Reiki Practitioner.

Follow-up Support - I offer (all reasonable) follow-up support after the course…the Reiki student-Master relationship is a partnership!  I have an ‘open door’ policy, which means that if you have a question or need help after your training I am contactable by land line, mobile, email or social media.  You will also be invited to join my Student Group on Facebook, so that you can keep in touch with me and the new friends that you make on the course.

Along with attending a thorough and professional Reiki Level I and II training (to National Occupational Standards), there are a few other things that I would advise you to do in order to become a professional and fully competent Reiki Practitioner:

  1. Gain insurance (compulsory and available through the FHT).
  2. Get a basic training/grounding in counselling skills (available through New College, Swindon).
  3. Undergo First Aid training for therapists.
  4. Gain an additional basic qualification in Anatomy and Physiology. The Wiltshire School of Beauty and Holistic Therapies, Swindon, offers an online A&P course, which is accepted by the FHT.
  5. Become a Member of an organisation that will give you all of the professional support and back-up that you may need (including legal and insurance).  I advise joining ‘The Federation of Holistic Therapists’ as being the ‘gold standard’ and necessary if you want to join Complementary Healthcare Therapist Register.

This all sounds too much like hard work!

I understand that this all may sound a bit daunting, however this is the industry standard minimum requirement for most professional therapy qualifications and many require even more input and commitment from those wishing to become qualified in certain healing modalities.

Also, don’t forget that there is a lot of ‘cross-over’, meaning that everything you do counts towards your total learning hours and case studies and assessments count towards the 75 treatments that you give to others, etc.  You will find that it is not as much work as it first looks!

This course is designed to:

  1. Make sure that you are fully qualified to be a professional Reiki Practitioner.
  2. Make sure that you can deliver what your clients need and that they keep coming back because they have had a good experience that meets their expectations.
  3. Make sure that you feel confident and capable to deliver a professional service.
  4. Make sure that you feel confident to deal with and are as prepared as possible for whatever physical and emotional problems clients may bring to your door.
  5. Make sure that you are serious about following this career path…you get out what you put in!

I want you to succeed and we will both work together to make this happen if possible.  I will also be here for you every step of the way and you will be able to contact me for advice and guidance whenever you need to (during business hours) from the moment you book to the moment you graduate.

How much will this cost me?

The cost of the Reiki Level I and II courses are the same as for normal Reiki training (£120 for Level I and £170 for Level II), with an additional charge of £180 to cover the final day’s training, the five assessed treatments (as these need to be attended in person by your tutor) and portfolio marking.  This brings the total for the Approved Reiki Practitioner Course to £470.  Payment is required in advance of attending the first course day and you will have 10 months in which to complete the whole course in total.

The course fee includes tuition on all three practical course days, all manuals and paperwork needed throughout, support (by telephone, email, and in person, etc) throughout the course, all reasonable follow-up support afterwards and certification upon successful completion of the whole course.  Refreshments, including hot and cold drinks (including mineral water) and snacks, will be provided on course days but please bring your own packed lunch.

I want to go ahead, what do I do next?

The initial Reiki Level I course dates are shown below, so you can start your journey to becoming a Certified Reiki Practitioner on any of these days, provided that there are spaces available (there are only four spaces available on any course, so book early to make sure you reserve yours):
